An Ode to the WALL



Not gonna post his career stats cos he aint finished yet instead gonna list a few of his acheivements and they are in no specific order....

  • He was the leading run scorer in the 1999 World Cup with 461 runs.
  • The highest winning percentage among all the captains who have captained their sides in at least 5 ODIs. He's won 23, lost 13 and had no result in 1 - this winning percentage of 62.16 displaces Ajay Jadeja's 61.54
  • Has the highest ODI batting average as captain of 45.58 (as of 4/7/06), among all captains who have captained more than 10 ODIs.
  • Under his captaincy the Indian team tied the previous record of most consecutive wins for an Indian team (8).
  • During his captaincy the Indian team broke the 14 match West Indies record for most consecutive won matches while chasing a total For this 17 match run, Dravid was captain for 15 and Sourav Ganguly was captain for the other two. This streak was broken on 5/20/06, when India lost to the West Indies by one run, at Sabina Park, Jamaica.
  • Most number of double centuries(5) by an Indian
  • dravid has 3rd highest number of Half-centuries (71) after Inzamam(82) and sachin(72)
  • the highest batting average (58.34) among those who have scored over 8,000 Test runs or who has played more than 100 matches
  • scored INDIAS second fastest fifty in 22 balls
  • did not miss a single test match for india since debut until recently(94 matches) A WORLD RECORD.
  • Scored nearly 23% of the total runs put up by India(with a batting average of 102.84) in the 21 Test matches won under Ganguly's captaincy. This is the highest percentage(%) contribution by any batsman in Test cricket history in matches won under a single captain where the captain has won more than 20 tests.
  • He averages staggering 80 runs per innings in the tests that India won or drawn...aptly said 'when Rahul does well..India does well'
  • To his credit of his 22 100s and 9 scores in 90s on only two ocassions india lost.... a rare record
  • 2nd most 100s in consecutive innings --4 100s

  • and one of the intersting record is when he scored 270 against pakistan, pakistan team scored less than 270 in each of the iniings of that match.(233 and 245....)
  • Most odi innings without a duck....he bettered that record and the next innings he got a duck.....

  • Rahul Dravid(in 158 inn)3rd fastest to reach 8000 run club in tests
  • 3rd highest run scorer in odi's in a calendar year ...with 1761 runs in 43 inn. at an avg of 46....
  • Only player to score a century against every Test playing nation away from home.
  • The only batsman to have been involved in two ODI partnerships exceeding 300 runs. With Ganguly at Taunton and with Sachin at Hyderabad.
  • highest score by a wicket keeper in a world cup 146 vs SriLanka at Taunton.
  • also the second highest score by an Indian wicket keeper after Dhoni.
  • Rahul Dravid led India to a historic test series win, against the West Indies in their home soil in 2006. Since 1971, India had never won a test series in the West Indies. This is also their first prominent series win outside the Indian subcontinent (barring the win against Zimbabwe in 2005) since 1986.
  • each of his five double centuries in Tests was a higher score than his previous double century (200*, 217, 222, 233, 270).
  • Scored his first test duck in his 24th test.

to add a few more.....

in 2004 he won every icc award he could possibly win, for a batsmen.

did not give up on the team even though he was helm of one of the worst performances by India at a world cup, went out only after he got back the winning streak.

he was asked by Steve Waugh to write an introduction to his book "out of my comfort zone", an Indian writing the introduction of the autobiography of an Australian legend.
